The Securities and Exchange Commission made its draft 2027 taxonomy update available for technical feedback on September 14, 2026. Comments are due by 4 p.m. ET on November 16, 2026, and the taxonomies will remain subject to Commission approval after public feedback is considered.
The draft includes revisions developed through the annual review and update process for all SEC taxonomies accepted in the Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval system, known as EDGAR. The SEC directed interested parties to the Draft 2027 Release Notes for details of the changes and made the draft taxonomy files available for download.
Technical feedback may be submitted by email to [email protected] with “Draft 2027 SEC Taxonomies” in the subject line. SEC staff encouraged filers, investors, analysts, software service providers and other interested parties to participate in the review as part of its effort to improve the process for creating and using structured filings.
The SEC emphasized that releasing the draft update for public feedback does not indicate Commission approval of any potential regulatory changes. Following consideration of the comments, the taxonomies will be presented for Commission approval.
Filers can consult the EDGAR XBRL Guide for guidance on complying with SEC eXtensible Business Reporting Language filing requirements. The SEC said its EDGAR webpage will provide updated information on any Commission-approved changes related to the EDGAR Filer Manual, while any necessary transition guidance for the taxonomy updates will be posted on the standard taxonomies page.
