Oracle announced on September 15, 2026, that it is investing in ten Texas wind energy projects expected to deliver more than 1.7 gigawatts of carbon-free electricity to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas grid, which powers its Abilene facility. Oracle said the projects are expected to generate enough electricity annually to equal the consumption of more than 525,000 U.S. homes.
The projects involve suppliers including Clearway Energy, ENGIE, RWE, and Scout Clean Energy. Oracle said the additional generation will help support the growth of its AI and cloud services while advancing its goal of matching 100 percent of the electricity used by its Custom AI Data Centers with carbon-free electricity by 2035.
Based on expected annual generation and eGrid emissions factors, Oracle estimates that electricity from the projects will have an avoided-emissions equivalent of 1.8 million metric tons of carbon dioxide each year compared with the ERCOT grid. The company also said the projects would increase grid resiliency and improve power affordability for schools, hospitals, businesses, and homes, though the announcement did not provide specific projections for those effects.
“Oracle has set a goal to match 100 percent of AI data center electricity use with carbon-free electricity by 2035,” said Mahesh Thiagarajan, executive vice president, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. “This announcement marks measurable progress toward that goal and reflects our commitment to building data centers responsibly—protecting the air, water, and land in the communities where we operate, while paying our own way for the energy we use.”
Oracle described the wind investments as part of its broader expansion in Texas and its work with local communities on energy resources for AI infrastructure. The announcement did not disclose the investments’ financial value, the individual capacity of each project, or their expected completion dates.
