General Motors introduced a new in-vehicle user interface on September 15, 2026, that will debut on the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and 2027 GMC Sierra light-duty pickup trucks. The software foundation is designed for electric, gasoline and diesel vehicles and is scheduled to expand across GM’s broader portfolio.
The redesigned home screen uses a default split-view layout, placing an interactive map beside information such as trailering metrics, fuel-efficiency data or media. High-contrast displays are intended to provide deeper blacks, richer colors and sharper visual depth, while the digital driver display changes its layout for tasks including trailering, off-road driving and use of available Super Cruise driver assistance technology.
When available Super Cruise is active, a new 3D driving visualization renders surrounding traffic, lane markings and road objects in real time. GM has also reduced activation of Adaptive Cruise Control and Super Cruise to a single button press. The company cautions that driver-assistance features do not replace the driver’s responsibility to operate the vehicle safely; drivers must remain attentive, and Super Cruise requires an active plan or trial and use on compatible roads in accordance with local laws.
Drivers will be able to arrange a quick-access view around frequently used apps and controls, while climate, audio and camera functions remain readily available and key physical controls are retained. Incoming calls and messages will appear without taking over the full screen, and an accepted call will be represented by a small timer at the top of the display. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay content can appear in a large card alongside native GM applications, including trailering and vehicle-status tools; compatible devices and data plans are required.
For towing, the interface will adapt when a trailer is connected, adding a dedicated instrument-cluster visualization and a center-screen card for key metrics. Other functions include a Hitch View camera for trailer alignment, underbody camera views for terrain, off-road performance information and smartphone-based checks of trailer brake lights, turn signals, reverse lights and running lights. GM says it remains the only automaker offering hands-free trailering with available Super Cruise.
The system will include access to Google Gemini, Google Maps, Google Play apps and native services powered by OnStar. Available front-passenger screen content includes streaming, music and video services, with polarized screen technology restricting visibility to the passenger while the vehicle is moving. GM says the software-defined architecture will support continuing over-the-air updates that deliver new features, revised interaction models and performance enhancements throughout the vehicle’s ownership lifecycle.
