The Federal Aviation Administration on Friday, September 11, 2026, marked 25 years since it took unprecedented action to land every commercial and private aircraft during the tragic events remembered as 9/11.
The agency is presenting a moment-by-moment account of the critical actions FAA employees took in response to the national crisis.
The FAA also says it has subsequently enhanced aviation safety and security.
The retrospective connects the agency’s immediate response during 9/11 with changes it says were made afterward to strengthen the aviation system.
